Browsing & Organizing

This page covers the everyday actions for managing your Spaces, Locations, and Items once you have more than a handful of each.

Spaces​

From the Spaces list you can:

  • Create a new Space (name + optional photo).
  • Rename a Space at any time.
  • Delete a Space — this permanently removes its entire Location tree and every Item inside it. You'll always be asked to confirm before this happens, since it can't be undone.
  • Switch between a card grid and a table view of your Spaces, depending on whether you prefer bigger visual tiles or a denser list.

The Location browser​

Opening a Space drops you into its Location browser — a breadcrumb-plus-folder view, much like a file manager. Each screen shows:

  • A breadcrumb across the top, tracing the path from the Space down to wherever you currently are — click any segment to jump back up.
  • A Sub-locations section, for the Locations directly nested here.
  • An Items section, for Items placed directly here (not counting anything inside a sub-Location).

From here you can create a new Location (at the top level of the Space, or nested inside wherever you're currently browsing), rename or delete the current Location, and move a Location to a different parent within the same Space.

Moving Items​

Items can move much more freely than Locations — including across Spaces entirely, since an Item is the actual physical object that gets carried from one place to another. To move an Item, open it and use the move action, which reuses the same breadcrumb/folder browser as a picker: start at the Space list, drill down to wherever it's actually going, and confirm.

Editing and deleting Items​

Open any Item to see its full detail — photos, all field values, current location, owner. From there you can edit any field (including re-assigning the owner or updating images), or delete the Item entirely. Deleting an Item is permanent and asks for confirmation first, same as every other destructive action in the app.

A general pattern worth knowing​

Across Spaces, Locations, and Items, Ohmventory is consistent about two things: renaming is instant (no confirmation needed, easy to undo by renaming again), while anything destructive — delete, or a structural move like reparenting a Location — always asks for explicit confirmation first, with a clear description of what will be affected. There's no "undo" after confirming a delete.
